8th edition of the Ocean Hackathon®

Ifremer is taking part in the 8th edition of the Ocean Hackathon®, to be held from November 17 to 19, 2023 at IMT Atlantique, 655 Avenue du Technopôle, Plouzané.

Ocean Hackathon® is a 48-hour digital marathon, enabling the emergence of new products and services in the field of the sea. 13 cities in different countries will participate simultaneously in this event: Boulogne-sur-Mer, Bournemouth, Brest, Cape Town, Cherbourg, Concepción, Kuala Lumpur, La Rochelle, Nord de la Réunion, Nouméa, Peniche, Rimouski, Toulon. A total of 84 challenges (of which there will be 8 in Brest) will be taken up by teams proposing innovative solutions to current issues facing the maritime community in the context of sustainable oceans. These challenges may start out as a simple idea, or be more mature and benefit from Ocean Hackathon® to give them a boost.

Ifremer is taking part in the event by offering the Sextant infrastructure as a data-sharing tool, and by providing coaches to support the various teams over the weekend (Jérome Detoc - IRSI/ISI, Simon Feger - IRSI/SISMER, Amandine Thomas - IRSI/SISMER and Martial Laurans - RBE/HALGO/LBH). The data on which participants will be working over the weekend is provided by the event's various partners, including Ifremer, Shom, Météo-France, Cerema, Office Français de la Biodiversité (OFB), EMODnet (see the full list of partners here).

At the end of the weekend, one team will be selected from each city to represent it at the international Grand Final on December 19.
