Data collection for the marine physics and chemistry data bank

Mise à l’eau d’une bathysonde

Marine physical and biochemical data acquired at sea (from vessels, moorings, etc.) are submitted to SISMER by scientists on a voluntary basis, sometimes unprompted, but most often after receiving a reminder.

Around every 18 months, we seek all the datasets liable to be archived at SISMER in this data bank based on the cruise descriptions and therefore contact the person responsible for these data or the chief scientist.

On average, the data are received almost 5 years after the cruise, and in some cases it can take up to 20 years to retrieve the data. A significant share of the data acquired at sea is never transmitted to SISMER.
