Launch of a milieumarinfrance.fr portal to simplify access to public data on the marine environment

The French Biodiversity Agency, the Ministry of Ecological and Solidarity Transition, Ifremer and their partners are launching a first version of the milieumarinfrance.fr web portal on Wednesday 10 July 2019. The portal provides general information on the marine environment and lists all websites and portals that disseminate data on the marine environment in France. It will eventually offer services for searching, consulting and downloading data.

The first version of the milieumarinfrance.fr portal offers three main features

  1. A listing of all regional and national websites and portals that provide data on the marine environment in France. A tool integrated into the portal allows a search of these sites by theme and by geographical area;
  2. The dissemination of general information on the marine environment in France. Some sixty thematic sheets describing the ecological state of the environment, activities and uses at sea, protection and restoration actions, the regulatory framework, the administration of reference systems and research at sea are published on the portal. The drafting of these sheets has mobilised the expertise of numerous public establishments (French Biodiversity Agency, Ifremer, Shom, Cerema, Anses, IRD, BRGM, Muséum national d'Histoire naturelle, CNRS and Universities) and ministerial departments (ministries in charge of the environment, health and maritime fisheries).
  3. The dissemination of a set of common rules and data to facilitate the exchange and re-use of data on the marine environment. These common rules and data will be enriched over time.

The milieumarinfrance.fr portal, which is technically produced by Ifremer under the supervision of the French Biodiversity Agency, will offer additional functionalities by 2020, in particular services for searching, consulting and downloading data
